Robe Á La Française

Learn to create THE most iconic dress of the 18th century in this 5 week course!


You will work from an easy to use paper pattern and each week I will walk you step by step through the process.

You will learn about fabrics and tools needed and all the steps to produce your own robe a la francaise:

- how to choose the right materials

- create a mockup

- cut your fabrics

- put the dress together

- hand sewing techniques

- how to make and arrange trimmings

- different sewing & finishing techniques

 

CLASS FORMAT

The class will be taught LIVE in five weekly lessons (=9 hours), where I will demonstrate in real time everything you need to know!

You will receive an assignment at the end of each class to prepare over the week.

You will of course have the opportunity to ask questions during class, which I will answer live, plus each course member gets 30 minutes 1-on-1 support from me in a Skype session!

You will be required to purchase your materials and pattern separately. A complete list of materials will be emailed to you when you book your place.

The pattern used in this class is "Robe á la Française / Pet-en-l’air" by JP Ryan. Your material list will include a list of international shops who carry the pattern.

​

Requirements to take this class: advanced sewing skills are required, as well as a complete set of 18th century undergarments (= stays and either pocket hoops or large panier) that you can fit your dress to.

A recording will be available after each lesson to review course contents, or for those who couldn't attend live.
